The Scranton Public Library will be celebrating 125 years of service during its Swingin’ on Vine block party and fundraiser on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 5-8 PM.

The Scranton Public Library first opened its doors to the people of Scranton and Lackawanna County on June 1, 1893. John J. Albright, son of Joseph J. Albright, donated the money to build the city’s first library. The architecture of the building resembles the Muse de Cluny in Paris, France.The library building is known as one of the architectural gems of Scranton.

The Swingin’ on Vine event will include food from Scranton-area restaurants, raffles, a 50/50, and seasonal cocktails. Performing at the Library for the first time, the local band Picture Perfect and the Raging Hormones will get everyone dancing with a variety of songs from Top 40 hits to Latin and Country. All proceeds will benefit the Scranton Public Library’s mission of enhancing the lives of all individuals by offering free access to materials designed to satisfy their informational needs.
