CALL FOR ANNUAL AWARDS NOMINATIONS

 

The Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries is now seeking nominations for its annual awards to be presented at the PCBL Annual Luncheon to be held October 4, 2015, at the PaLA Annual Conference at the Penn Stater Conference Center, State College, PA..

 

Now is your opportunity to nominate a Friends Groups, an individual, company, or organization that has performed exceptionally well in helping your library or other libraries in the State.

 

Access the Annual Awards Nomination Form to be used in submitting your nomination.  You may email the form and supporting documents or send them by mail.

 

The following is a description of each Award category.  Please note that the Committee will not necessarily name a winner in every category.

 

Nominations are due by July 24, 2015. 

 

Citizen of the Year:   Award given to a citizen who has made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of a local library, group of libraries, or libraries in general throughout the State during the past two years.

 

Corporate Citizen of the Year:   Award given to a business or corporate which has made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of a local library, group of libraries, or libraries in general throughout the State during the past two years. The contribution may be a direct monetary contribution, assistance in raising funds or advocacy, or in kind donations.

 

Friends Group of the Year:   Award given to a Friends group that has provided significant assistance to its library. Assistance may be monetary contributions, assistance in raising funds, promoting the library and its services, or providing an advocacy effort on behalf of the library. The Friends Group must be a member of PCBL.

 

Friends Newsletter of the Year:   Award given to the most effective Friends group newsletter. The newsletter may be published in hard copy and/or online. The newsletter will be evaluated on frequency, content, appearance, and timeliness. The Friends Group must be a PCBL member.

 

Elected State Official of the Year:   Award given to a State elected official who has been a leader in promoting and supporting Pennsylvania’s libraries. The award may be given to a group of officials.

 

Library Public Relations Award:   Award given to a library that has conducted an effective public relations campaign for a specific program, event, or library use in general, that has resulted in significant community support.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award:   Award given to a citizen or group who has shown exceptional meritorious service to libraries over an extended period of time and extending throughout the State. The citizen or group should have had substantial impact on libraries beyond the local level.

 

Local Public Official Award: Award given to a local elected public official who has been a leader in promoting and supporting Pennsylvania’s libraries either locally or regionally, or one library specifically. The award may be given to a group of officials.

 

Media Award:   Award given to a newspaper, radio or TV station, individual or group, for an editorial, article, series of articles, or video, in support of a specific library or libraries in general.
