Chester Springs Library is Moving | STAGING Compendium

Chester Springs Library is on the move! On Saturday, April 16, the library will begin an exciting new chapter when it relocates to a newly updated and renovated building in the village of Historic Yellow Springs.

The move is especially meaningful for the Chester Springs community because it was made possible entirely by donations and support from library patrons, area residents and local businesses. Unlike usual municipal relocations, no taxpayer funding was used for the project. The new library represents a true grassroots effort. And the result is a true community treasure.

The library’s new home, just a few doors down from its current location, will combine the warm and friendly atmosphere that have become the hallmark of this unique community library with many 21st century updates. The new location boasts a long list of amenities including

  • State-of-the-art technology – including desktops, laptops and iPads
  • Plenty of off-street parking and convenient handicap access
  • An expanded children’s learning center
  • Comfortable reading areas
  • Multi-use space for educational, civic and social events

Chris Mazza, chair of the library’s board of trustees, echoes the sentiments of staff and patrons alike, saying, “After four decades in our original location, this move represents a defining moment for the library and our community as we not only preserve a local treasure but ensure that it remains a cornerstone of the village of Historic Yellow Springs for generations to come.”

The new library will be located in the beautifully renovated Yeaworth House (aka “The Infirmary” to many local residents), a storied building that traces its roots to the Civil War era when it was established as the infirmary for the Pennsylvania Soldiers’ Orphan School. Now completely updated and retrofitted to serve today’s visitors, the library features an open floor plan awash with natural light – a perfect hub for social and educational gatherings. With convenient access for all visitors, the new location is also a tech friendly learning center.

In anticipation of the relocation, the library is seeking volunteers for a Book Brigade to help pack and re-shelve the collection on moving day. Volunteers are asked to sign up for a time on the library’s website, www.chesterspringslibrary.org.

The library will be closed Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17. The doors will reopen at the new location Monday, April 18 to welcome local residents, library customers and readers of all ages.
