The Bradford Area Public Library, in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, is having an author event, community forum and panel discussion!

Julie Murphy, #1 New York Times bestselling author, will be visiting the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Harriett B. Wick Chapel on Wednesday, April 11 at 7 pm. Murphy will be participating in a fireside chat to answer questions about her books and writing process. A book signing will follow her presentation. The Pitt-Bradford hospitality management program will provide refreshments.

Prior to the author visit, the Bradford Area Public Library and UPB will be hosting a community forum and panel discussion, at 5 pm in the chapel, called Who Am I,  targeted at parents and teachers of pre-teens and adolescents. This forum will cover issues that teens are almost certainly dealing with, like body image, sexual identity, and peer relationships. Many of Murphy’s books, like Dumplin’ and Ramona Blue, feature characters dealing with these matters themselves.

Marie Troskosky, teen book club coordinator at the library, first suggested the Who Am I? theme. She says, “Murphy writes about characters who question how to see themselves in relation to the people around them. The question they struggle to answer is who am I?”

Both the forum and Murphy’s presentation are FREE and open to the public. All community forum attendees will be entered for a chance to win an Amazon gift card.

Murphy’s second novel, Dumplin’, will be released as a movie later this year, starring Jennifer Aniston and Danielle Macdonald, with original music by Dolly Parton. Murphy’s newest novel, Puddin’, will be released in May.
