One of the functions of library trustees is to make an annual report to municipal authorities in the library’s service area. This annual report includes information pertaining to the library’s usage. Library trustees must be able to communicate with authority and authenticity about their library’s activities, especially when held accountable by municipal leaders providing funding to the library.
In this presentation, Patrick “PC” Sweeney will discuss:
- how to understand and build data around audiences
- how to use a Tully message box
- the benefits of 27-9-3 messages
- best message structures and outlines
- how to test messages and
- how to create messages and tell stories of impact to municipal leaders.
Sweeney is the former Administrative Librarian of the Sunnyvale (CA) Public Library and Executive Director of EveryLibrary California. He’s a founder and moderator of the ALA Think Tank Facebook group—now 10,000 strong—which serves as an informal epicenter of librarian discussion. (Despite the name, the group is not affiliated with the American Library Association.) He currently works as the Political Director for EveryLibrary and is a lecturer on politics at the San Jose State University iSchool. He is a 2015 Library Journal Mover and Shaker recipient for his work in California and across the country. He can be found online as PC Sweeney.
Space is limited to 80 trustees from the Capital Area, Chambersburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, & York Library Districts. Library Directors are welcome to attend as space permits! Those outside the listed districts may also attend if space is available (contact Stephanie Williams by April 27).
Registration closes Friday, April 27 at 5PM, or whenever 80 registrations are reached.
There is a $5 registration fee per person to cover the cost of continental breakfast.
