Please join us for a day of learning and sharing built for library staff at all levels and libraries of all sizes from the Library Districts in Southwest Pennsylvania!  Building on the success of the first Confluence in 2017, library colleagues from Allegheny, Beaver, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland Counties will come together for another great day of professional development.

You and your colleagues will share experiences, learn from each other and better understand the people we all serve through a day of structured and informal learning opportunities. You’ll also have time to network a bit, see old friends and make new ones, and explore the food options in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood for lunch.   There will be tours of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Main Library where you’ll see behind the scenes, meet your colleagues and see for yourself resources that are available for every library and every resident of PA to use.

Topics for the day include:

1. Libraries Helping Job Seekers 
2. Determining needs of the job seekers – skill assessment, counseling and interviewing,
3. Finding, promoting and instructing users in special resources – online and in person.
4. Trouble-shooting the service – what if people need more help than you can give?
5. Best Practices Panels and Discussions
6. Programs and services for post-retirement audiences
7. Serving and employing Millennials
8. Serving audiences with specific needs (veterans, immigrants, people with special needs or physical challenges, etc.)
9. Building Better Managers
10. Performance management and progressive discipline
11. Recruiting, interviewing and hiring
12. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – building diverse staff and boards, understanding our implicit biases
