How can Trustees generate strategies and actions that make public libraries more relevant and responsive to the life of the community? The key is to develop an atmosphere where the community is the reference point for decision-making and to forge partnerships and relationships that make a more vibrant and inclusive culture.

Presenter David Bendekovic will cover a wide variety of topics to help Board Members master the job of Library Trustee including: leadership by design, Pennsylvania library structure and responsibilities, library corporate records notebook, laws and bylaws, effective meetings and motions, policy development, fiscal oversight, hiring and evaluating the Library’s Director, risk management, board governance committee, the board’s building cycle, and intellectual freedom.

As a result of this workshop, Trustees will become more knowledgeable and confident in their ability to ensure effective organizational planning, enhance the library’s standing in the community, and generate strategies and actions that make their libraries more relevant and responsive to the life of the community.
